Cortem Group’s products are manufactured to respond to specific needs of particular sectors, in which the risk of trigger potentially explosive atmospheres is high. During production, transformation, delivery and stocking of flammable substances in the chemical and petrochemical plants, so as during the production of oil and natural gas, inside the mines and in many other fields (such as the food field), gases, vapors and mists are produced. In contact with the oxygen in the air, they can create an explosive atmosphere.

For every Cortem Group’s product it is possible consulting the legend about application sectors on the relative page.

Oil & Gas

Substances and materials produced and wrought in petrochemical plants implicate a constant risk for the environment and people who work there. Oil and gas transformed in petrochemical industry are, for their nature, combustibles and, consequently, in these places a high risk of explosion and fire develops.

Energy

To produce electric energy are used different fossil fuels which are wrought through processes ranging from carbon, oil, natural gas combustion up to nuclear. The combustion of those substances, if in contact with the oxygen in the air in proportional amount, may represent a high risk of explosion.

Chemical and pharmaceutical industries

In companies producing drugs for mixing, emulsion and chemical reaction of organic compounds, can verify environmental conditions able to create potentially explosive atmospheres. Besides industrial plants, where a product process takes place, there are research and development chemical laboratories in which liquids, gases or combustible dusts could be present in such quantities that they can become a risk of explosion.

Cereals storage

Cereal storage silos are deposits where food industry products (such as wheat, grain, rice or similar) are stored. All those products are made of coal, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen etc., therefore they are combustible and may cause fire and explosions. Dusts generated by the grinding of those cereals, due to their low specific weight, may remain hanging in the air for long periods originating explosive atmospheres.

Coating booths

Coating booths, where spray coating is used and that is based on the forced passage of flammable liquid or of dust coatings through the gun nozzle, are areas with risk of explosion. Even the dust coating plants present dangers of explosion: in fact, the resin which constitutes dust is a combustible organic substance that, mixed in the air, may produce potentially explosive atmospheres.

Biogas plants

In biogas plants, biodegradable organic substrates such as grass, straw, manure, biodegradable waste, residue of food production and greases, are fermented. In this environment without oxygen, bacteria produce biogas starting from organic compounds in fermentation. Such biogas is used for the production of electrical energy and heat.
