API Rafinery of Falconara, Italy
How we have solved the need for efficient and quality emergency lighting, reducing energy and maintenance costs.
The customer
Established as a mineral oil deposit in the 30's, Falconara Marittima's refinery is today, thanks to the production of electricity and petroleum products, a technologically advanced energy pole of the utmost importance in the italian landscape, certified ISO 14001 for environmental protection, OHSAS 18001 for safety and ISO 9002 for quality.
Developed over an area of more than 700,000 square meters, it currently has a processing capacity of 3,900,000 tons per year (about 85,000 barrels per day) and a storage capacity of more than 1,500,000 cubic meters.
The Falconara refinery also features:
- an on-land dispatch system with a total capacity of over 12,000 tons per day
- a marine reception and shipping system consisting of a marine terminal complex capable of receiving oil tankers and super tankers from 1,000 up to 400,000 tonnes.
The challenge
Get an efficient and quality emergency lighting reducing energy and maintenance costs, especially for equipment installed in difficult access areas such as towers and fireplaces.
Solutions and results
Following a cost-benefit assessment, Falconara's refinery has decided to replace the fluorescent emergency lighting previously installed with the FLFE-222LEF4 series emergency lighting fixtures.
The benefits are remarkable in terms of durability, maintenance and energy costs: the estimated lifetime of a fluorescence lamp is 10,000 hours compared to LEDs that ranges from 50,000 to 100,000 hours. This means a significant reduction in maintenance costs for tubes or lighting fixtures replacing, a very complex activity in areas not easy to access.
Energy consumption is also much lower: a total 40W power consumption for the LED lighting fixture compared to the 65W of the fluorescent one with a 25W saving for each equipment.
