Chemical-pharmaceutical industry

The chemical and pharmaceutical sector includes the transformation of organic and inorganic raw materials into chemical products and the production of finished and non-finished pharmaceutical products.

In companies that produce drugs by mixing, emulsion and chemical reaction of organic compounds, environmental conditions can occur such as to create potentially explosive atmospheres. In addition to the industrial plants in which a production process takes place, there are chemical research and development laboratories, within which liquids, gases or combustible dusts may be present in such quantities that they can still represent an explosion risk.

In the chemical-pharmaceutical industry, electrical equipment must be able to function even in the absence of human resources but in the presence of inhospitable atmospheres, high pressure and extreme temperatures.
